GIWEH's Water Award was initiated in 2009. It recognizes good practices and achievements in science and research which provide effective and sustainable use and management of water. GIWEH's Water Award is usually granted every year at the GIWEH Annual Event on World Water Day at the United Nations Office in Geneva (UNOG), or at the International Conference on Water Resources and Environmental Management (ICWRE). Until 2012, the award recognized the good practices in the field of water management. Starting in 2013, GIWEH rewarded experts for their research. A certificate is attributed to each award winner, along with the offer to attend the next GIWEH Conference free of charge (including transportation, registration, and accommodations).
