Milestones of the year

  • GIWEH continued to hold its Internship Program. Until now, GIWEH accepted 6 interns from different countries and with diverse academic backgrounds. Duration of their internships varied from 3 to 6 months.
  • GIWEH has become the member of the World Water Council (WWC) and of the Global Water Partnership Organization.
  • GIWEH applied for the consultative status with the United Nations Economic and Social Council.

Activities

  • 07-08 November 2013, Paris, France – The GIWEH participated in the second meeting of the OECD Water Governance Initiative in Paris on 07-08 November 2013. The OECD Water Governance Initiative is an international multi-stakeholder network of around 100 delegates from public, private and not-for-profit sectors that gather together to share on- going reforms, projects, lessons and good practices in support of better governance in the water sector. The OECD Water Governance Initiative kicked off four Working Groups – the GIWEH is a member of a Working Group on Stakeholder Engagement for Effective Water Management led by OECD and Suez Environment.
  • 06 November 2013, Geneva, Switzerland – The 4th Swiss Water Partnership was held in the GIWEH office in Geneva.
  • 22-25 October 2013, Geneva, Switzerland – The GIWEH participated in the 19th regular session of the UNECE Committee on Environmental Policy, as well as attended side events on “SEIS in practice and the way forward in the pan-European region” meeting of the Steering Board of the and “UNEP’s contribution to the post-2015 development agenda and update on the implementation of the 10 Years Framework of Programmes for SCP”.
  • 08-11 October 2013, Budapest, Hungary – The GIWEH participated in the Budapest Water Summit Science Forum, as well as attended high level plenary sessions.
  • 06-08 October 2013, Budapest, Hungary – The GIWEH Director, Dr. Nidal Salim, participated in the 50th Board of Members meeting of the World Water Council.
  • 10 September 2013, Zurich, Switzerland – The GIWEH Policy and Programme Manager, Ms. Elina Mirzoeva, participated in the Knowledge and Trade Faire organized by the Swiss Water Partnership. This event provided an important opportunity to build relationships with other Swiss Water Partnership members, as well as development banks.
  • 31 August – 6 September 2013, Stockholm, Sweden – the GIWEH participated in the World Water Week in Stockholm, represented by Dr. Nidal Salim, Director, Ms. Elina Mirzoeva, Policy and Programme Manager, and Ms. Ling Shen, Intern. The GIWEH attended numerous sessions and side event and provided valuable contributions to discussions.
  • 14-15 May 2013, Daegu, South Korea – GIWEH Director, Dr. Nidal Salim, participated in a kick-off meeting of the 7th World Water Forum.
  • May 2013 – GIWEH has started organization of two Training Programs: “Environment and Water Governance” and “Technical Writing (Project and Research Proposals, Everyday Correspondence)” for water specialists from Iraq. The Programs are planned to be held in November 2013 in Berlin, Germany.
  • 09-11 April 2013, Geneva, Switzerland – GIWEH held the Second International Conference on Water Resources and Environmental Management: Water, Food, Energy Security and Climate Change (ICWRE-2013).
  • 26-28 February 2013, Tbilisi, Georgia – GIWEH conducted a course “Water Resources: Policy and Management”. The training was scheduled within the framework of the Capacity Building for International Relations (CABIR) project financed by the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC) and implemented by Geneva Graduate Institute of International and Development Studies.
