UNECE’s eleventh meeting of the Working Group on Integrated Water Resources Management

GIWEH will participate in the discussions held in Geneva, on 18th and 19th October, for the 11th Meeting of the Working Group on Integrated Water Resources Management under the Convention on the Protection and Use of Transboundary Watercourses and International Lakes. Two major thematic poles will be addressed: the 20th Anniversary of the entry into force of the Convention; and the opening of the Convention to accession by all United Nations members States, in effect since 1 March 2016. It is the opportunity to look back at the achievements in transboundary water cooperation under the Convention and foresee future challenges.

Issues arising from the opening of the Convention, its promotion and partnerships will also be examined in depth. The Convention will discuss how it can evolve to best support transboundary water cooperation globally and start work on the strategy for the implementation of the Convention at the global level, including its relationship with the Convention on the Law of the Non-navigational Uses of International Watercourses and the role of key partners.
GIWEH will attend the sessions as a nominated expert organization representing the non-governmental voice, as well as to stay up to date to the Agenda regarding those issues.
