GIWEH joined as a member the working groups for the 2020 High-level Segment (HLS) of the Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) including the three-day ministerial meeting of the High-Level Political Forum on sustainable development (HLPF), which was scheduled to be held from 7 to 17th July in New York.

GIWEH with its partner Asia Water Council (AWC) submitted a new initiative to accelerate “Accelerated action and transformative pathways: realizing the decade of action and delivery for sustainable development”.

The initiative was planned to be delivered as oral statement, but due to the continuing COVID-19 pandemic the Economic and Social Council has adjusted the program for the HLS and decided that it will not hold a General Debate this year. Consequently, it will be presented as written statement in lieu of the oral statement.
