The Global Institute for Water, Environment, and Health (GIWEH), in cooperation with BENAA Foundation (An Egyptian NGO, with official issuing number 10655, which implements sustainable WASH solutions in Egypt and the MENA region), aims to supply millions of Egyptian inhabitants who are living in vulnerable regions with safe drinking water within the current decade (Water Action Decade, 2018-2028) to achieve local SDG 6 (clean water and sanitation) on a community based approach (6.a). GIWEH will lead the project andbuild a strategic partnership to implement Drinking Water Kiosks in non-served communities as a pilot project. In addition to cooperation with BENAA Foundation, the Egyptian Ministry of Water Resources and Irrigation, the Ministry of Housing-Egypt, and the Holding Company for Water and Wastewater (HCWW), in addition to the village councils of the targeted areas will support the project in a participatory approach and community based approach.
This project will be a pilot project which will start with 10 water kiosks but the long-term objective of the project is to help the Egyptian Ministry of Water Resources and Irrigation, the Ministry of Housing-Egypt to build up more Water Kiosks in 10 years, increasing access to inhabitants in off-grid communities in addition to the areas where they suffer some challenges in water supply and poor quality.
This project is the first phase, which aims to build ten water kiosks by the end of 2021- mid 2022 in two phase, starting with 5 kiosks in the first phase and extend another 5 kiosks after evaluation the impact, business plan and sustainability of the project.
