The 1st International Conference on Water Resources and Environment (ICWRE), “Water and Environment in a Changing World,” gathered 106 participants from diverse countries and backgrounds at the Atlas Asni Hotel in Marrakech, Morocco. It was organized by GIWEH in cooperation with several partners, including the University of Cady Ayyad and the University Sidi Mohamed Ben Abdellah. There were representatives from universities, government agencies, local governments, NGOs, and private companies, as well as students from the Arab World, Europe, Asia, Africa, and the United States. In four days, presentations, experience-sharing, and a lot of discussions took place, concerning subjects such as technological advances and transfer, pollution, impacts of climate change, hydro-diplomacy, and green growth. As a result of the talks, the participants came up with a list of recommendations to improve water management around the world, favoring the Integrated Water Resources Management (IWRM) approach. The list of recommendations can be found in the report (see link below).
